On the fourth day of September in the year of our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and eighty-one, in the city of Houston, Texas a young titan was born. Nearly 36 years later, this very queen, affectionately known as Bey, is contemplating blessing her city yet again. According to Bloomberg, Beyoncé is considering an investment in the National Basketball Association’s Houston Rockets franchise.
Current Rockets owner Les Alexander, who paid $85 million for the Rockets in 1993, announced last month that he would be selling the team to capitalize on a current value swell of sports franchises across the board. With the Los Angeles Clippers franchise selling for $2 billion three years ago, some predict that the Rockets' popularity in China may push the sell above that record price.
Although both the Rockets and Beyonce’s publicist declined to comment on the speculative report, a move to purchase a stake in her hometown basketball franchise does not seem far fetched for the pop icon. Jay-Z, who once held a less than 1 percent stake with the Nets, has major ties to the sport through Roc Nation, which represents athletes. Justin Timberlake, Venus and Serena Williams, and Jennifer Lopez are just a few celebrity investors who own stakes in major sports franchises.
It's definitely a business move worth considering. We see you, Bey!
