Though Beyoncé has made very few appearances or statements since she left the spotlight for maternity leave after giving birth to her and Jay-Z's twins Rumi and Sir Carter, the Houston native has not been silent when sending love out to her hometown in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

“My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help,” she told The Houston Chronicle per Pitchfork. “I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor [Rudy Rasmus at St. John's in downtown Houston] to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”

This devastation that has left many homeless and even claimed the lives of several others brings back haunted memories to the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, just 12 years almost to the date that Harvey made landfall.

Many fled to Houston after the catastrophe in New Orleans that is known as the costliest natural disaster in U.S. history. Now those same individuals might have to abandon their homes in Houston due to the flooding.

On Tuesday morning, Donald Trump, according to The New York Times, visited Corpus Christi to see how much damage the tropical storm caused.

“It’s a real team, and we want to do it better than ever before,” said Trump of the response effort during a meeting with officials from local, state and federal agencies in a Corpus Christi firehouse. “We want to be looked at in five years, in 10 years from now as, this is the way to do it.”

It is still unclear when and if Trump plans to touch down in Houston, however, according to the article he has no plans to meet with Sylvester Turner, the mayor of Houston.

“Due to the weather and all of the circumstances it’s a little bit more fluid today than a normal travel day,” said Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary.

“The president wants to be very cautious about making sure that any activity doesn’t disrupt any of the recovery efforts that are still ongoing, which is the reason for the locations we are going here today,” she said. “As of right now, I don’t know that we will be able to get to some of the really damaged areas.”

Beyoncé's BeyGOOD organization which was founded in 2013 teams up with global philanthropic charities to provide housing, food and medical care to those in need.
