Michael Feeney, who was named an Emerging Journalist of the Year by the New York Association of Black Journalists and also served as its president, passed away at 32 on Sunday, January 31st. He was admitted to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, New Jersey last Tuesday and was infected with staph in his kidneys, which caused him to have a fatal heart attack.

The former NY Daily News reporter was well-respected by his peers and those who knew and loved him. After the news broke, an outpouring of condolences flooded the timeline:

Feeney was the true marker of Black excellence, spreading information in a responsible and exciting way, always helping peers and friends, as well as constantly encouraging anyone and everyone to be their best selves. His memory will be cherished by those who were impacted by his work and life.
