Mikhaela Jennings, a Black TikToker, is airing her grievances with other creators and brands for allegedly profiting off her viral catchphrase without compensating or giving her the proper credit, Insider reports.

In November, after some of her followers dissed her new hairdo, Jennings, whose TikTok handle is @KhaeNotBae, handled the virtual assailants with such comedic prowess, it resulted in a new catchphrase: “The girls that get it, get it; the girls who don’t, don’t.”

Brands like Boohoo, LinkedIn, Outback Steakhouse, and Oreo, as well as other TikTokers, have since used the phrase.

Jennings said she eventually reached out to brands that used her phrase and requested remittance, but they were resistant, according to Refinery 29.

Jennings told Complex that seeing her content exploited by non-Black creators is “very disrespectful” and that she is currently seeking to trademark her sounds.

“TikTok and the internet is a side mission for me. I know I have a purpose, and this is fun right now, and if it goes on new avenues for me, I would like that too, but it’s always going to be a side mission because I can’t get my gratification from the internet,” Jennings said, according to Refinery 29.

“I’ll still continue to do this for as long as it’s giving back to me. But as soon as it starts taking more than it’s giving, it’s done for,” she added.
