CW Seed - Vixen SeriesYes, we’re all anxious for the Black Panther movie, as well as the Luke Cage TV series that’s coming to Netflix. Also, Cyborg will be at the center of his own big screen movie adaptation.

But what about the black women superheroes? Storm is probably the most mainstream right now, if only due to the X-Men movie franchise, as played by Halle Berry. But there are certainly others.

nullFor example, there’s Vixen (alter-ego – Mari Jiwe McCab) – a female super-hero from the fictional African nation of Zambesi, whose superhero powers include using her Tantu Totem to channel the powers of animals in the animal kingdom, so she’s able to mimic the abilities of any animal that has ever lived on Earth. Nice powers to have.

Created by Gerry Conway and Bob Oksner, and first appearing in Action Comics #521, in 1981, Vixen has been a member of the Justice League, the Justice League International, Suicide Squad and other superhero collectives.

nullAnd now, first revealed at the Television Critics Association’s annual event (earlier this year), the the superhero is starring in her own animated series, via CW Seed, with "Arrow’s" executive producer Marc Guggenheim, overseeing the project.

The series will be set in the same world as CW’s "Arrow" and "The Flash" live-action series.

Prior to this news, Vixen made appearances in other series, like the Justice League Unlimited animated series, in which she was voiced by Gina Torres.

In this CW Seed series, she’s voiced by Megalyn Echikunwoke.

Captain obvious asks: with this new animated series in development, should we expect an eventual live-action movie based on the character – especially if the animated version is a success? Time will tell…
