Congrats to Chad Coleman (who plays Tyreese) and Sonequa Martin-Green (who plays Sasha) who’ve been promoted to full-time series regulars in AMC’s hit zombie series, The Walking Dead, which returns in October.
As we saw in last weekend’s season finale, both characters have now rejoined Rick at the prison.
In addition, we haven’t seen the last of The Governor, because David Morrissey will also be returning as a series regular next season.
What direction will the series take once October comes around?
Creator of the series, Robert Kirkman, told THR the following:
“[Rick] is letting the people of Woodbury in and tying to tell Carl that these people are like us, you have to be open to this and the only way to survive in this world is to have people and be in a community. That’s going to be a big part of season four.”
So, we now officially have 3 black series regulars on the show, including Danai Gurira as Michonne. That breaks the rule doesn’t it? The one about there not being more than 2 black regular players, right?
It’s my understanding that the Sasha character was created just for the TV series, and doesn’t exist in the comic books. It makes you wonder what exactly prompted that decision – to create this new character, and make her Tyreese’s sister. I wonder what specific story-line they’ve crafted for her, and how it’ll fit into the overall picture.
I wonder how Tyreese will be used, and how his story (whatever it is) will unfold, given that he’s going to be around just about every episode. He’s supposed to become Rick’s right-hand man, so maybe we’ll see that start to happen in season 4. He and Michonne are supposed to get involved romantically, although, in a previous interview, Danai didn’t seem certain that this would happen. But maybe she just couldn’t say.
And speaking of Michonne, will we see a more 3-dimensional depiction of her? Maybe dig into more back-story, give her something more to do than scowl and chop off heads with her sword from time to time.
Am I asking for too much of all these characters?
Obviously the series isn’t following the comic books closely, so whatever you might have read in them, is pretty much out the window.
But congrats to Chad and Sonequa on the promotions.
