Just when we think he can't amaze us any more than he already has, Chance the Rapper makes us say, "He did that!"

Chance took the stage on The Late Show
with Stephen Colbert this week to perform new music.

Viewers expected to see something in the vein of the Chicago rapper's Coloring Book work. What they got was something very different. 

Ahead of the show, CBS teased that Chance was going to perform a song that he'd written only two days ago.

According to Chance, performing this new mystery song was not a part of the original plan.

"I was supposed to do "Grown Ass Kid" tonight, and I called you up and said I couldn't do that anymore for reasons I don't want to go into," Chance told Colbert in a pre-performance interview. "We had to come up with a song in a matter of days and I wanted to do something fresh. Not to lie, I've been in the studio a lot lately, cooking up some yammers. They're honestly great. I premiered "Angels," the first song off Coloring Book, here [on the Late Show] so why not do a new song for you tonight?"

And Chance did not take the stage alone!

He was accompanied by singer and instrumentalist, Daniel Caesar, who is featured on the song which has yet to be titled.

Caesar dropped his debut album, Freudian, last month. Though Chance has yet to release a new album, this performance will be able to hold us over in the meantime.

The song is a reflective one, focusing on what are often called "First World problems." Chance talks about how his life has changed since he became his city's favorite son, and gives encouragement to those facing problems that may not seem dire in the grand scheme of things, but that affect lives nevertheless.
