After having a successful music career with her sister, the Atlanta native was ready to branch out and start her solo career. In 2021, she made her solo debut performing a rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and honored the sultry singer’s legacy with a performance on ABC’s Juneteenth: Together We Triumph special.
Since she first released music as a soloist, there have been mixed opinions about her image. The comments some fans and trolls would leave under videos of her singing covers of popular songs overwhelmed her — to the point where she addressed their claims of her being “sexy” for attention on Instagram Live in 2021.
“It’s really hard for me to think of myself as a sexual being or an attractive being quite frankly,” she said on Live. “So, when I see all the uproar about my posts and stuff, I’m a bit confused. Like, I really don’t understand because I’ve never seen myself in that way.”
Since then, she’s grown to be comfortable in her skin, despite the haters, and has since clapped back at them with fewer words and more singles: “Have Mercy,” “Treat Me,” “Surprise” and “For the Night,” featuring fellow Georgia peach Latto.
Now, she’s ready to tell her story with her debut album, and fans are excited to hear it. With her album being one of the most highly anticipated of 2023, they shared their enthusiasm in the comments.
“This album has BEEN a need 🥹,” a fan said.
“Yesssss 😭 you don’t know how bad I’ve been waiting on this,” another agreed.
“I smell a total scrap of the previous material with all brand new songs ❤️ 😌,” one fan wrote.
