Showtime is launching a new documentary series showcase titled Closeup, which will give measured and complex looks at the lives of several notable public figures, with Richard Pryor being among the first to be profiled.

Also scheduled to be "provocatively studied" early in the series' run are Suge Knight, Dick Cheney, and music mogul Tommy Mottola.

It's all coming together now… you may recall that, last year, it was announced that Antoine Fuqua had signed on to direct and produce a new documentary project based on the life and exploits of Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight, for Showtime. 

It was said that Knight would participate in the doc, and will discuss his rise to fame, why it fell apart and what’s next.

And earlier this year, announced by Showtime at the Winter 2012 Television Critics Association Press Tour, the network said it planned to invest heavily in what they called “branded, high-impact filmmaker documentaries” in 2012, with Fuqua's Suge Knight project being one of those already in development, as well as a project on the life of late comedian Richard Pryor, which was said to be in the works at the time, adding that details were still being worked out with Pryor’s family, but they were making progress.

He didn't reveal anything further than that – specifically who would be directing it.

The Pryor doc will be titled Richard Pryor: Omit the Logic; while the Knight feature will be called Suge Knight: American Dream-American Knightmare.

No word yet on when these Closeup documentaries will air, so stay tuned.
