When most people think of Compton, they think N.W.A., Kendrick Lamar, Boyz N The Hood, maybe even bloods and crips. However, all that may change as CBS LA is calling Compton L.A.’s newest housing hotspot. More specifically, "Compton is the new trendy city to make a buy."

This notion comes from the less expensive price tag of homes in Compton. Homes that are not too far from the beach are going for less than $400,000.

In an interview with one Compton homeowner, broker Julio Ruiz explains why he enjoys living in Compton.

“We walk every night to the park, bread store or look at Christmas lights," he said. “Now you have a Target, Best Buy. It’s like living in Porter Ranch now as far as services come.”

Another homeowner, Karla Scott says her mortgage is less than what her rent was before she purchased a home. When asked if she felt safe she quickly answered.

“Yes. No bars on the door. I noticed more people taking their bars down,” she said.

“I’m not gonna be the guy that says ‘man I remember Compton was bad. Everything was so cheap. I should’ve bought then.’ Right now is the time to do it,” Ruiz said.

So far, we seem to only be hearing from black and brown people, which is fair enough. But what about those already living in the city of Compton? Are the beginning stages of gentrification on the menu? You know it only takes one.
