Costco has recalled more than 940,000 bottles of its Kirkland brand prosecco due to a potential “laceration hazard.”

The prosecco manufacturer, F&F Wine International Inc., has recalled bottles of Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG over concerns that the bottles could break or shatter easily, posing a hazard to consumers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday in a news release.

F&F Wine International, Inc., which also does business under Ethica Wines, has received 10 reports of the bottles shattering or breaking, resulting in one laceration injury, according to the news release.

The product was initially manufactured in Italy and sold in the United States.

The beverage was sold in several states at Costco stores nationwide

The prosecco was sold in Costco stores in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin from April 2025 through August 2025 for a retail price of about $8.

Consumers can identify the affected products with the UPC number (196633883742) and the Costco Item Number (1879870).

The federal agency also recommends that they “should immediately stop using the recalled bottles and not attempt to open them,” per the news release. “Consumers should discard the recalled bottles in their household trash and contact Ethica Wines for instructions on how to obtain a full refund from Costco.”

Was the same product recalled before?

In September, Costco warned consumers about the same product and said there was a concern that the bottles might shatter. The retail chain suggested that if consumers had unopened bottles of the prosecco, they should discard them immediately and not return the item, according to the notice.
