The DC extended universe has been on shaky footing lately after the mixed reviews on Batman v Superman, but it would be wrong to count the squad out with Justice League still in the chamber (Suicide Squad, too).
One thing that has slipped from obscurity is the role Cyborg may play in the DC superhero team up film. In BvS, the most we saw of the character was a very strong cut scene, in which Joe Morton, portraying Silas Stone gives life to Cyborg with a device called a Mother Box (think of it like a palm-of-your-hand super computer that can manipulate energy amongst other things, from somewhere far away).
Heroic Insider on POPBOOM, hosted by Umberto Gonzalez & Daniel Alter discuss the possibility that Cyborg’s connection to Mother Box tech will be a integral part in the newly formed team’s education about Darkseid, the film’s villain. Just in case you’re not following, (for right now) think of Darkseid like a ruthless alien from a royal family that decides he’s all the way about that tyrant life.
The good news is that if these rumors about Cyborg are true, the DC extended universe films seem to be following the story lines from the New 52 2011 revamp of their comic book universe, which was axed in May of this year (so you have time to catch up if you want). Although, there are debates about the quality of the New 52 (which is literally like breathing in nerd culture), there are definitely some story line moments that would make for interesting cinema.
The only confusing part about this news is that the rumored villain for the first of the two part Justice League film series is Steppenwolf, Darkseid’s uncle. But all will be revealed if we stay patient enough, at least until the next rumor leaks. What’s most important here is that Ray Fisher as Cyborg should be getting some prime screen time, at least, in the first film. Black superheroes sure are making some major moves this next few years.
