Update (August 2, 2021): Rapper DaBaby took to social media on Monday to apologize for a second time to his fans and those that he upset after he made offensive statements during his performance at the Rolling Loud festival last month. 

“Social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes,” the rapper, whose real name is Jonathan Kirk, said in a statement.

“I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received,” he continued.

Later in the statement, the rapper apologized to the LGBTQ+community for his “hurtful and triggering comments.”

“Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important,” DaBaby said.

His apology comes just days after the rapper took to Twitter and stated “…what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies.”

During the rapper’s performance at the Rolling Loud festival in July, he made a series of insensitive and homophobic comments, as Blavity previously reported.

“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases, that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up… Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d**k in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up,” DaBaby said.

Subsequently, he received backlash and was dropped by fashion retailer boohooMAN shortly after the incident. On June 30, the rapper had announced that he would partner with the fashion retailer to release a 100-piece limited edition collection.

In recent days, DaBaby has also been dropped from several upcoming musical festivals including Day N Vegas, Lollapalooza and Governors Ball and the U.K.’s Parklife Festival, Rolling Stone reported.

Original (July 28, 2021): After spewing homophobic rhetoric and making ignorant comments about people with HIV/AIDS, DaBaby has been dropped by fashion retailer boohooMAN, Yahoo reports.

DaBaby released a 100-piece limited edition collection with the fashion retailer which dropped on June 30. On Twitter,  boohooMAN shared an official statement that condemned DaBaby’s comments.

“boohooMAN condemn the use of homophobic language and confirm we will no longer be working with DaBaby,” the statement read. “Diversity and inclusion are part of the boohoo Groups DNA and we pride ourselves on representing the diverse customers we serve across the globe. We stand by and support the LGBTQ+ community, and do not tolerate any hate speech or discrimination in any form.”

As Blavity previously reported, DaBaby made comments about people's HIV/AIDS status and several other homophobic remarks at the Rolling Loud Festival held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

After the concert, the blowback was swift as many denounced DaBaby’s rhetoric.

Addressing the backlash, DaBaby took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

“Anybody who done ever been effected by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset, what I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies,”  his tweet read. “But the LGBT community… I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business.”

In another tweet, he seemingly addressed BoohooMAN dropping its partnership with him.

“& for any brands, networks, or artists that like to profit off of black rappers influence on the culture, without understanding it or having the patience to deal with what comes with the position we play in our culture, keep you money next time,” he tweeted.“Us “N****S” human too,” he concluded.
