Of course you’re going to get to see a lot of Taystee in season two and I just shot an episode of ‘Girls’ for HBO. I will be the first Black woman to be on ‘Girls,’ so that’s exciting for me. Other than that I just don’t know. I’m hoping Melissa McCarthy will hit a sister up.
Words from Danielle Brooks, co-star of Netflix’s original hit series Orange Is the New Black, in a recent interview with Ebony, when she was asked what’s next for her.
I already shared my thoughts on the entire Lena Dunham Girls “lack of diversity” nonsense last year (read that post HERE if you missed it), and lots of you had plenty to say as well. So I won’t rehash, and will instead just say, congrats to Brooks on booking the gig, which should only help further raise her profile.
She doesn’t say what exactly the role is, so we’ll just have to wait to find out.
I’m surprised there wasn’t a formal announcement that she’d booked a role on the show, given how popular it is, and all the controversy around its insular casting, and also the fact that Brooks happens to be on one of the most talked about new TV series, in Orange Is The New Black, which was renewed for a second season.
Maybe we just missed the news…
Recall that it was earlier this year when Donald Glover appeared on a few episodes of Girls, as star Lena Dunham’s black Republican love interest.
