Black America is staring down the barrel of a loaded gun held by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. In a memo sent out to U.S. attorneys, Sessions informed them that it is not the job of the federal government to police state and local law enforcement agencies. Why? Because according to Sessions: “Local control and local accountability are necessary for effective local policing.”

Let’s take a look at how local control has turned out for us. According to the Washington Post, 963 people were killed last year by police. This year we are already at 267. In addition to the senseless police involved shootings, police departments have historically violated the constitutional rights of people of color. No need for due process when corrupt police departments who lack accountability are able to sexually violate women (calling it a strip search), and use drug transactions as restitution. But Jeff Sessions has no idea that any of this is even taking place.

When repeatedly asked by the press if he had read the DOJ report on the Chicago Police Department, his response was no. In a city that desperately needs accountability and transparency in the police department, the most powerful attorney in the country has no time to read up on it. Since the issues of Chicago, Baltimore, Ferguson and other cities are not in his backyard, Sessions takes no initiative in caring. Instead, he has ordered a review of all civil rights agreements and consent decrees. Maybe Sessions missed the part of his job description that made all of America his backyard (aka jurisdiction)?

The call to delay hearings in Baltimore and decision to review the already entered into agreements is like your ex saying they need more time to decide if they want to be with you or not. The sad part of that scenario is knowing that in the end, that person will never follow through on loving you.

So here America is, in 2017 reliving the sentiments of the fallen prophet Kanye West, except this time, it’s Jeff Sessions who doesn't give a damn about black people.

I wish there was a better way to say that we are screwed.

I wish there was a perfect call to action to make Jeff Sessions read the reports.

I wish there was a perfect call to action to keep police departments across America from using black people as target practice, and from making driving a dangerous activity for us.

But there is no perfect call to action, only a sincere one.

We need to take up the fight on the state and local level. For many of these elected officials, 2018 is an election year. Nothing says you got us twisted more than voting them out of office (If only we could vote Sessions out!)

Until then, hug that black man or black woman in your life harder and be cautious. Why? Because America doesn’t give a damn about black people.
