Last week, the massive kid-fan base of the popular Disney Channel cartoon, Doc McStuffins learned how to properly prepare for an earthquake in an episode titled "The Emergency Plan." The episode, depicting parents who happened to be an interracial lesbian couple, is the latest effort on the part of The Disney Channel to show more diverse and inclusive narratives. The married couple was voiced by real life lesbians Wanda Sykes and Portia de Rossi. Sykes, whose kids are fans of the popular show, spoke about the importance of the narrative in the following interview with Disney Television Animation News.
"I always envision Doc McStuffins as a show about what it means to accept everyone as part of our communities," said the show's executive producer Chris Nee in a GLAAD blog post. "As part of a two-mom family, I’m proud to have an episode that reflects my son's world, and shows everyone that love is love in McStuffinsville."
