From the moment Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino dropped the music video for "This Is America," people praised the rapper/actor/writer and also analyzed the visuals from a myriad angles. It is definitely the type of video that requires repeat viewings. It was crafted to draw the viewer's attention to the foreground, thereby distracting them from what occurs in the background.

Whether a second or tenth viewing of the video, people start to realize there is more to it than meets the eye. There is something deeper than what is at the surface. But, what exactly?

There are a slew of theories about the meaning behind "This Is America," but we're sure most people want to hear it from the artist himself.

This Monday, Glover attended the 2018 Met Gala, and was asked about his popular new music video.

Glover had one thing to say about the highly-dissected video on the gala's red carpet, and it was kind of perfect:

“I just wanted to make, you know, a good song. Something people could play on Fourth of July," quipped Glover.

BOOM.

Glover was a bit more talkative when asked about partying with Lena Waithe at the gala. He mentioned looking forward to getting into shenanigans with Tracee Ellis Ross, as well.

Regardless of your specific theory about the video, ya gotta admit Gambino's answer is one for the record books.
