As Tambay reported back in November,Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes was considering adding a black character to the cast for the show's fourth season which goes into production in late March, for a U.K. premiere in the the fall on ITV and on PBS in January 2014.
As it was reported back then:
"It has already tackled weighty issues including the Great War, miscarriages of justice and homosexuality, but Downton Abbey could now turn its focus to race relations and multiculturalism. (Fellowes)… said that he would like to introduce black or Indian characters into the programme. When asked about criticism in some quarters that Downton Abbey… does not contain any black characters, the writer said it would be “rather nice to open it up ethnically a bit”.
Now it has been confirmed that a black character will be joining the cast for its next season, who will be named Jack Ross, and that the casting department is currently looking for an actor to play the part.
According to reports, Ross is described as "being 25-30 years and a singer at an exclusive club". Also the Abbey casting department says that whoever is cast for role "must be able to sing and posses a certain "wow" factor."
Hey are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Is he going to be "rolling in the hay" with any of those women on the show? How about that Lady Mary since she's now a widow? She's going to be needing someone for some TLC. I'm just saying. And you know what they say… once you go black….
