Meek Mill was not allowed to root for his hometown team, the Philidelphia 76ers, in Toronto, due to ongoing legal issues.
The 76ers made it to the second round of the NBA playoffs, but when they traveled to Toronto, they were short a super fan. On Saturday, the team of young players, led by Joel Embiid, faced off against the Raptors, losing 95-108. Mill was not there to support his team and Drake had something to say about it.
"They gotta let Meek into the city," Drake wrote in an Instagram story. "It's only right … we got a classic series on our hands."
According to Complex, the Philly rapper was not allowed to attend Saturday's game because Judge Genece Brinkley did not grant him a travel request. The judge gave Meek a two to 4-year prison sentence for violating probation for a 2008 weapons and drug possession case.
Since last year, he asked for travel requests to foreign destinations and she obliged. The 31-year-old reportedly traveled to the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany without issue.
However, the recent series between his beloved 76ers and the Raptors have become a bone of contention. Sixers co-owner Michael Rubin called out Brinkley in a charged Instagram post blasting her for alleged pettiness. He wrote there were several phone calls made to her office that went unanswered. Rubin also claimed the infamous judge had a personal vendetta out for Meek.
The issue at hand calls attention to the failings of the justice system. Mill is able to defend himself from the clear bias and harassment, but poorer victims can not. For the next 12 years, Meek Mill will have to ask for permission to leave the state of Pennsylvania when he decides to travel.
