Echo Kellum has joined the cast of CW’s DC Comics series "Arrow" for its 4th season, booking the role of Curtis Holt, the alter ego of Mister Terrific. According to the DC Comics wiki… before he began his career as a superhero, Holt already ahd 14 Ph.Ds (two in engineering and physics – including doctorates and master’s degrees in law, psychology, chemistry, political science, and mathematics); some serious academic work there.
He’s also a self-made multi-millionaire with a high tech firm called Cyberwear and was a gold medal winning Olympic decathlete. This dude is truly superhuman.
The accidental deaths of his wife and unborn child were a devastating blow to Holt, and while contemplating suicide, he was met by the Spectre, who told him about Terry Sloane, the Golden Age superhero known as Mister Terrific. Inspired by Sloane’s life story, he took the name Mister Terrific and later joined the current Justice Society of America, eventually serving as its chairman.
Some of his many abilities include: Genius-level intellect (well, that was obvious, with 14 freaking Ph.Ds), olympic-level athlete (that was clear as well), master martial artist (of course), there’s extensive nanotechnology in his mask and costume for a variety of sensory, communication, and database retrieval functions, he’s a pro with weapons, and more.
In the "Arrow" series, he won’t be exactly the same character as in the comics. Entertainment Weekly describes Holt as "a technological savant and inventor," an employee at Palmer Technologies under Felicity Smoak’s (Emily Bett Rickards) supervision.
Oh, and he’ll be gay in the TV series. My research tells me that he isn’t gay in the comics.
Prior to Kellum’s casting, Mr. Terrific’s addition to the series was announced at the Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment panel last week at Comic-Con. "He’s got to work with Felicity," executive producer Greg Berlanti revealed at the panel. "Our version of Mister Terrific happens to be gay."
Starring Stephen Amell, David Ramsey and Emily Bett Rickards, "Arrow" season four is scheduled to debut Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8 pm EST on The CW.
