Mainstream news outlets often falter when it comes to covering news stories that impact the Black community. However, the tide may turn in 2020.
It was announced that former Oklahoma Congressman J.C. Watts and longtime TV executive Bob Brillante have teamed up to launch the Black News Channel, a new network dedicated to covering the African American community with news, sports and entertainment coverage 24/7.
The network will be available in prominent African American TV markets such as New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. In addition, BNC has also inked deals with Comcast, Charter and Dish Network.
“Our network is about providing intelligent programming that is informative, educational, inspiring and empowering to our African American audience, so they are participants in a national conversation,” Watts said in a statement. “If we have the opportunity to include the largest African American audience possible from day one, then that should be our top priority.”
The Black News Channel, also known as BNC, will officially launch on January 6, 2020.
