The new British 6-part drama series “The Level” (which stars Karla Crome, Philip Glenister, Laura Haddock, and Noel Clarke), and the 7-episode original miniseries “Close to the Enemy,” which Angela Bassett co-stars in, are both set to make their USA debuts.
Continuing to feature exclusive U.S. premieres of first-rate international content every week, SVOD platform Acorn TV’s December slate features the new British thriller “The Level” (an Acorn TV Original), and the star-studded post-WWII drama “Close to the Enemy,” available at Acorn.TV and on most devices. “The Level” follows Nancy Devlin (played by Karla Crome), a Detective Sergeant living a secret double life. Her exemplary police career masks a covert attachment to shady businessman and drugs trafficker, Frank Le Saux (Philip Glenister), which puts her at the center of an investigation as she risks exposure, while being stalked by a killer intent on destroying her.
Stateside audiences will know star Karla Crome from her 2 seasons on the hit E4 series “Misfits,” which is currently streaming on Hulu. And co-star Noel Clarke, the writer, director, actor, producer, will also be very familiar to USA audiences (“Kidulthood,” “Adulthood,” “Brotherhood,” “Star Trek Into Darkness” and more).
Further cast includes Suzanne Packer, Lorne MacFadyen, Jane Hazlegrove, Ashley Kumar, Kelly Harrison and Rupert Procter.
Set in a bomb-damaged London hotel during the aftermath of World War II, “Close to the Enemy” is a thriller that follows British intelligence officer whose last task for the Army is to ensure that a captured German scientist, hands over secret cutting-edge military technology crucial to national security. Angela Bassett plays Eva, a confident American jazz singer who breathes life into the bomb-damaged London hotel at the center of the series, with her music; she’s a member of an ensemble cast that’s led by Jim Sturgess, with Freddie Highmore, Charlotte Riley, Phoebe Fox, August Diehl, Robert Glenister, Alfie Allen, Charity Wakefield, with Lindsay Duncan, and Alfred Molina rounding out the starring cast.
“The Level” will premiere for USA audiences on Acorn TV on Monday, December 12.
