After Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an attack on Ukraine last week, Ukraine severed diplomatic connections with Russia and announced martial law. As the fighting continues, many Ukrainians, including African immigrants, are trying to escape the conflict zone. 

In light of several videos showing African refugees being denied access to leave Ukraine, musicians Beyoncé, Young Thug, and others are offering help to those affected by the conflict.

On Sunday, the charitable foundation of Beyoncé shared a tweet on its Twitter account in response to the devastating reports of Black people being mistreated at the border. 

Young Thug also pledged on Sunday to help Africans leave Ukraine safely through a series of Instagram Stories posts. 

"If some of my rap brothers are in I'm willing to help Africans get out of Ukraine however I can sense [sic] they not letting us pass," Thugger said. "Whoever holds the info for these movements please contact me ASAP I'm ready."

Young Thug has received support from rapper Strick, who wrote: "This needs to be Shared more! I'm with you slime! Proud of you my brother. Always been a true leader."

Insider reports that Black people are prohibited from boarding trains and buses heading to the border and some are prohibited from entering other countries. 

Korrine Sky is just one of the thousands of African students who study medicine and other technical fields in Ukraine at affordable prices. Sky reveals that natives of Ukraine have been made a top priority in fleeing the country.

"Some people have gone to get buses, but they're not allowing Black people basically onto the buses," Sky said. "They're prioritizing Ukrainians. That's what they say."

Another student, known as Nze, currently in Ukraine, posted a video on his Twitter account, stating that the police and army at the border threatened to shoot them and was only allowing Ukrainians to cross.

"Watch how they are threatening to shoot us! We are currently at the Ukraine -Poland border. Their Police and Army refused to let Africans cross they only allow Ukrainian," Nze said. "Some have slept here for 2 days under this scorching cold weather, while many have gone back to Lviv."

Two days prior, the student tweeted that he and two other students were aboard a train leaving the country, but they were soon removed from the train and told that only Ukrainians were allowed.

"Train to Poland got here, I and other two Africans entered first, mins later, the police came in and dragged us down from our cabin," Nze said. "Only Ukrainians are allowed."

As a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, thousands of people have fled to neighboring nations in central Europe. According to Insider, Up to five million people could be displaced due to the crisis, and Poland is preparing to take in up to one million refugees.
