P-Valley‘s Brandee Evans is wowing audiences with her performance as Mercedes. Shadow And Act’s Trey Mangum caught up with her during a recent episode of our new series, Shadow and Act Live, to ask her about how it’s been to receive so much love from the fans.

“I knew that the show was good and I prayed and I hoped that the world would receive it, but whew child, these fans–y’all go hard!” she said. “…They are very invested and they have questions and they are very involved and I love it,” she said, thanking fans for the support.

The series currently has a 100 percent fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, a rare score for a television show or film. Evans said she was “still in shock” from the high critical praise.

“It’s just so amazing because these [exceptional shows] are the things I’ve watched..I’ve watched these amazing actors and actresses when I wanted to act get this type of praise for what their work is…I’m just so honored and humbled by it,” she said.

She also suggested that she wants to stay humble and grounded in light of her success instead of becoming prideful. For instance, she said she’s still taking acting classes.

“I never want to feel like I’ve arrived,” she said. “I think it’s just [about] staying in this moment and trying to do good work and just taking it one day at a time and enjoying [it.]…[P-Valley] would be a show I would watch even if I wasn’t a part of it, so to be a part of it, it feels good.”
