Rafiki director Wanuri Kahiu has already lined up her next project. According to Deadline, Kahiu will direct Los Angeles-set romance Covers, hailing from Universal and Working Title.
There is not much else released about the film except that it will take place within Los Angeles’ music scene. The only other interesting note about the film so far is that this script is from a first-time screenwriter Flora Greeson.
Even with so little knowledge, the film could quickly become one that all eyes will be on solely because of Kahiu’s breakout year at Cannes with Rafiki.
Even though the film became Kenya’s first film to screen at the Cannes Film Festival, the Kenyan government banned the film for its story, which focused on a lesbian couple. Kahiu sued the government in order to allow it to screen in Kenyan theaters in time for Oscar consideration. Thankfully, she won her suit.
