Blavity’s Shadow and Act has the first exclusive look at FreeLance, the upcoming Sundance Film Festival-bound indie television pilot from directors Julien and Justen Turner, aka The Turner Brothers. It will screen later this month as a part of the fest’s Episodic Fiction Pilot Showcase.

The project, from the Turners’ Dreadhead Films, stars Spence Moore II, Lou Young III, Lou Ratchett, Bernard “B Nard” Clark, René Vaca and Elijah Cooper, with Kevin “KevOnStage” Fredericks, Christianee Porter, Mel Mitchell, Kyle Flood, Jaren Bretz and London Arrington also appearing in the project.

What’s ‘FreeLance’ about?

Per the official Sundance description, “a young filmmaker documents his journey toward his first movie as he moves in with a friend group of ambitious creatives, all trying to support one another’s dreams in an oversaturated market. This inexperienced crew of 20-somethings takes on unorthodox jobs to build their brand and pay rent.”

In an exclusive statement, the Turner Brothers told Blavity’s Shadow and Act “Being at the last Sundance in Park City with FreeLance feels surreal. This festival has always been one of the highest recognitions in the art, and a place where so many of our heroes first got their shot. To bring a story we built from Columbus, about creators betting on themselves, their friendships, and their city, into a space that’s launched the kind of filmmaking we grew up studying is an honor we don’t take lightly.”
