The newest horror star is a lovable dog in the new IFC film Good Boy.
Directed by Ben Leonberg and his pet dog Indy, Good Boy stars Indy as the dog of his owner, Todd. The two head to Todd’s vacation home, which Indy rightly feels wary about. As the trailer shows, creepy stuff starts happening in the house, leaving Indy left to fend for himself and save his owner.
What is the horror film ‘Good Boy’ going to be about?
According to the official description:
Our canine hero, Indy, finds himself on a new adventure with his human owner—and best friend—Todd, leaving city life for a long-vacant family home in the country. From the start, two things are abundantly clear: Indy is wary of the creepy old house, and his affection for Todd is unwavering. After moving in, Indy is immediately vexed by empty corners, tracks an invisible presence only he can see, perceives phantasmagoric warnings from a long-dead dog, and is haunted by visions of the previous occupant’s grim death. When Todd begins succumbing to the dark forces swirling around the house, Indy must battle a malevolence intent on dragging his beloved Todd into the afterlife.
Indy also starred in the short film, also called Good Boy, which the feature film is based on.
The trailer shows how the film puts a new twist to horror by telling what could be a standard scary story through the eyes of a friendly dog. That twist makes the film even more frightening. But thankfully, the scares also look and feel creepy and disturbing on their own.
The film is written by Leonberg and Alex Cannon with stars Shane Jensen, Arielle Friedman and Larry Fessenden appearing alongside Indy. Leonberg also produces with his wife, Kari Fischer.
When is ‘Good Boy’ in theaters?
