Announced today, HISTORY’s “Roots” – which performed very well for the network during its entire run which kicked off on Memorial Day – arrives on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD) and DVD (plus Digital) on August 23 from Lionsgate.
“Nearly 40 years ago I had the privilege to be a part of an epic television event that started an important conversation in America,” said LeVar Burton, Co-Executive Producer and the original Kunta Kinte. “I am incredibly proud to be a part of this new retelling and start the dialogue again, at a time when it is needed more than ever.”
Reimagined for a whole new generation, the 4-part miniseries is brought to life by an all-star cast including Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Mekhi Phifer), Tip “T.I.” Harris, Matthew Goode, alongside breakouts Regé-Jean Page and Malachi Kirby.
This epic 4-part miniseries tells the story of Kunta Kinte, from his being sold into slavery, following his family through generations, up to the Civil War.
The home entertainment release of “Roots,” which includes the behind-the-scenes documentary, “Roots: A History Revealed,” will be available on Blu-ray and DVD for $29.99 and $26.98, respectively. Preorder your copy here.
