Amazon MGM Orion Pictures’ adaptation of Aleshea Harris’ Obie Award-winning Off-Broadway play Is God Is has set its cast.

Harris will direct and write the script.

Kara Young and Mallori Johnson are starring in the film, according to Deadline, with Sterling K. Brown, Vivica A. Fox and Janelle Monáe.

Young and Johnson are playing twins who have faced trauma from an early age and find out their mother wants them to do the unthinkable.

According to Deadline, the story follows Racine and Anaia, twins who have been disfigured by burns and have created a life where Racine protects them while Anaia retreats into Racine’s shadow. They are shocked to realize their mother is still alive and tells them that she is bedridden because of their father. She also reveals that their burns are due to their father as well. She wants them to kill their father, leaving the twins in a moral quandary.

Tessa Thompson is producing the film along with Janicza Bravo, Riva Marker and Kishori Rajan.

A film adaptation of the play was first in the works back in 2018 at A24 with now-embattled producer Scott Rudin attached before ending up in its current state.
