In celebration of the success of Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, the Netflix title is making its way to theaters for a sing-along event.
According to Netflix, KPop Demon Hunters: A Sing-Along Event will take place for one weekend only in a limited theatrical event across the United States and Canada on Aug. 23 and 24.
What is ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ about?
Since its June 20 release, KPop Demon Hunters has become the most popular animated Netflix film of all time, and it is currently the first original animated film to enter the Most Popular Movies List.
Per an official film synopsis, “When they aren’t selling out stadiums, Kpop superstars Rumi, Mir, and Zoey use their secret identities as badass demon hunters to protect their fans from an ever-present supernatural threat. Together, they must face their biggest enemy yet – an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.”
The film features Arden Cho, May Hong and Ji-young Yoo; the sing-along invites viewers to become fans of the K-pop girl group HUNTR/X, around which the movie is centered.
KPop Demon Hunters, also stars Ahn Hyo-seop, Yunjin Kim, Joel Kim Booster, Liza Koshy, with Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Byung-hun Lee.
“I mean, I think what’s so great about this and other projects that have been similar to it is that women can be beautiful and be strong,” said Yoo, who voices HUNTR/X member Zoey in an interview with Blavity’s Shadow and Act. “These aren’t things that you need to compromise on. It’s not like they’re in conflict with each other. And I think that’s one of the best parts of this movie is that these women are imperfect and messy and funny, and silly and beautiful, and they kick butt, and these all can work in harmony with each other.”
