The Martin spinoff Varnell Hill has added another Black entertainment vet to its cast.

Comedian and actress Kym Whitley will join Tommy Davidson in the upcoming spinoff series on BET+, according to Deadline.

The series follows Davidson’s Martin character Varnell Hill, who has hit it big with his own nighttime talk show. Varnell is now trying to remain relevant in the changing TV landscape while dealing with “the corporate dynamics of network executives, business stakeholders and creative teams involved in the making of the show,” according to the outlet.

Who will Kym Whitley play in ‘Varnell Hill’

Whitley will play Kim Jones, Varnell’s long-suffering assistant. Kim also fills the roles of “emotional bodyguard, professional fixer, and the talk show’s unofficial executive producer.”

Martin Lawrence confirmed to be in ‘Varnell Hill’

Martin Lawrence, per Deadline, is also poised to appear in the series for several episodes, reprising his character Martin Payne.

Varnell Hill is co-created and executive produced by Lawrence via Runteldat Entertainment and Bentley Evans, who served as Martin executive producer and showrunner.

Evans, who wrote the Varnell Hill pilot, will also direct and serve as showrunner.

Other executive producers include Runteldat Entertainment’s Stacy Lyles, Robert Lawrence and Rae Proctor, as well as Jesse Collins, Andy Horne and Dionne Harmon.
