It’s officially robbin’ season!
Gail Bean, known for her roles in FX’s Atlanta, Snowfall, HBO’s Insecure, is entering the realm of horror comedy with a new project hailing from Shayla Racquel Films.
Bean is set to lead the series Robyn Hood, a fresh, modern take on the succubus folklore merged with an inside joke in Black culture. Bean is set to lead an ensemble that includes Daniel Augustin (Hulu’s Wu-Tang Series, David Makes Man, Dynasty), Bianca Bethune (Bad Boys 2, Bad Boys For Life) and content creator and comedian Ben Abiola.
Robyn Hood will follow Qaseem, a millennial man who is healing from a break up until he is allured by a mysterious and intense woman who has only one interest – to steal his hoodie. Robyn Hood is a fun and frightful tale detailing the saga of a sensual and charming Robyn, a dame who finds comfort in stealing men’s hoodies for something more sinister.
“Robyn Hood is a witty portrayal of how the alluring power black women possess can be magnetic & frightening all at once,” Gail Bean said in an official statement.
Written and executive produced by Shayla Racquel of Shayla Racquel Films, Robyn Hood is also directed by Janeen Talbott of Lore Films and produced by Moon Ferguson, the creator of Juju: The Webseries – under her production banner, Filled With Magic Productions.
Complete with a crew of Black women in roles ranging from cinematography to production design, the production for Robyn Hood has launched a GoFundMe to raise more funds for production costs. Check out the video below:
