Despite the outpouring of love over the new The Lion King trailer, tons of fans have also expressed their frustration at the new look for the film’s villain, Scar, voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Many have used their Twitter platforms to make fun of Scar’s less-than-full mane, which is no longer black and luscious like it was in the 1994 animated film. Instead, it’s patchy. Another change is Scar’s fur color, which is no longer dark brown, but a sandy color like Mufasa and Simba.

This is only a smattering of what nostalgic Twitter users had to say about Scar’s new look:

One commenter came with some nature facts, giving a legitimate reason as to why Scar’s redesign might make sense for this more accurate adaptation.

But other Twitter users have also provided real life evidence of lions with black manes, proving that Disney made a conscious decision not to pay homage to Scar’s original design.

The Lion King fans will argue over this until the film drops July 19, so we’ll have plenty of memes and hilarious comments to enjoy until then.
