ABC’s new Scrubs revival teaser promises more of the same Turk-J.D. bromance that defined the original series.

The teaser brings Sacred Heart Hospital residents J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison) and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) back, further along in their careers, but still the same knuckleheads that Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) mentored way back in 2001. J.D. tries to do his best Dr. Cox lecture to the new residents, but Dr. Cox himself appears and puts J.D. back in his place. Following right behind him, nurse (and Turk’s wife) Carla (Judy Reyes) chides Dr. Cox for teasing J.D.

If any fans of the series were worried the revival wouldn’t have the same charm as the original, the teaser should have alleviated worries. And with real life being so heavy, a lighthearted, good-natured show like Scrubs is an extremely welcome reprieve.

TVLine reports that the official logline of the series describes how, even though things might have changed, the heart of the series remains the same.

“Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but [Turk and J.D.’s] bromance has stood the test of time,” according to the logline. “Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.”

Who else will star in the ‘Scrubs’ revival series

The series also stars Vanessa Bayer, Joel Kim Booster, Avan Bunn, Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Layla Mohammadi and Amanda Morrow. Former Scrubs stars Robert Maschio and Phill Lewis also return.

As Shadow and Act reported in July, the series brings creator Bill Lawrence back to serve as executive producer. He said to Variety how Scrubs “means so very much” to him. He also said he was “[s]o excited for the chance to get the band back together.”

Lawrence also talked to Deadline in October 2024 about what he wanted from the new series.

“We’ve been talking about a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo,” he said. “A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it’s a calling. There’s no cliché ‘rich doctors playing golf’ — that’s not what it is anymore. So I think that, no matter what it is, it would be a giant mistake not to do as a combo of those two things.”

When does the ‘Scrubs’ revival series premiere?
