The trailer for the mystery/dark comedy series Sunny, starring Rashida Jones, has been released by Apple TV+.

Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Jun Kunimura, YOU, annie the clumsy and Jun Kunimura also star in the series, which premieres July 10.

Here’s the description:

Sunny stars Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship, as together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family, becoming dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.

Sunny which is produced by A24 for Apple TV+, was written and executive produced by Katie Robbins, who is the showrunner. Lucy Tcherniak is the director and also executive producers. Jones is also an exeuctive producer.

The show is based on the novel Dark Manual, by Irish author Colin O’Sullivan, an award-winning writer living in Japan.

This is the second project between Apple, A24 and Jones after Sofia Coppola’s On the Rocks.
