The second season announcement trailer for Netflix’s GLOW is out, and it’s happily celebrating its cheesy ’80s roots.
The fun trailer features Allison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Sydelle Noel, Kia Stevens, Kate Nash, Sunita Mani, Ellen Wong, Gayle Rankin, Jackie Tohn, Britt Baron, Marianna Palka, Kimmy Gatewood, Rebekka Johnson, Britney Young and newcomer Shakira Barrera as the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, gearing up for showtime to the tune of Michael Sembello’s “Maniac.” Marc Maron also makes a cameo in the trailer as the curmudgeon behind GLOW, Sam Sylvia.
Similar to the first season, the second season looks like it could be a lot of fun. What would also be great is if Noel and Stevens’ characters, Cherry Bang/Junkchain and Tammé Dawson/The Welfare Queen, become even more fleshed out than they were last season. It would be interesting to see how the women’s characters in the ring continue to affect their lives outside of the ring, especially when it comes to Dawson and her son who’s in medical school.
GLOW, created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch and executive produced by Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann, is inspired by the real 1980s female wrestling league. According to the official description, the show follows “the fictionalized story of an out of work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.”
The second season of GLOW will be available for streaming June 29.
