Fox’s medical drama The Resident has been renewed for a second season. The show, co-produced by Antoine Fuqua, co-starring Shaunette Renée Wilson and Merrin Dungey and featuring Patrick R. Walker, Tequilla Whitfield, April Parker-Jones, Jocko Sims, Denitra Isler and Euseph Messiah, will air its penultimate episode May 7.
The show, which also stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Bruce Greenwood and Manish Dayal, focuses on young doctors who face the good and evil that takes place in modern medicine. Michael Thorn, president of entertainment for the Fox Broadcasting Company, said The Resident successfully shows a different type of medical drama to viewers.
“(Co-producers Amy Holden Jones, Todd Harthan) and all the producers on The Resident set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before – to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country. Clearly, they’ve succeeded,” he said. “Matt, Emily, Bruce, Manish, Shaunette and the show’s entire cast have turned in consistently heartfelt performances, and we are so excited to go back to Chastain Memorial for another tremendous season.”
On Monday’s episode, “Run, Doctor, Run,” Czuchry and Dayal’s characters are rushing to save the life of a woman who is suffering from mysterious causes. According to the episode’s description:
“Conrad (Matt Czuchry) and Devon (Manish Dayal) race against the clock to save the life of a woman who is deteriorating fast from undetermined symptoms. Meanwhile, Bell (Bruce Greenwood) must remain calm when Austin (guest star Malcolm-Jamal Warner) impulsively pulls him into a procedure. Then, tensions rise as Nic (Emily VanCamp) continues her search for evidence to incriminate Lane (Melina Kanakaredes), but must simultaneously tend to her sister, Jessie (guest star Julianna Guill), who is rushed into the ER.”
The Resident, which is also produced by Rom Corn, David Boorstein, Oly Obst and Phillip Noyce, airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET.
