The Wayans Brothers– Shawn, Marlon and Keenen Ivory Wayans– are officially in for the upcoming Scary Movie reboot from Paramount and Miramax.

The two have signed on to write and produce the film, which was officially set back in April when it was announced that Paramount had partnered with Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Moritz. Rick Alvarez is also writing and producing.

The reboot (the franchise’s sixth overall) is also a part of Paramount’s first-look partnership with Miramax, who will fully finance the production. The Scary Movie franchise is just one of many feature film projects Moritz is set to produce for Paramount.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new ‘Scary Movie’ and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again,” Marlon, Shawn and Keenen said in a statement, as Variety reported. “We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise,” said Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman. “The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

On Instagram, Marlon wrote, “WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”

The original film was developed by Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Directed by Keenen and written by Marlon and Shawn, it was released in 2000 and went on to spawn four sequels. Shawn and Marlon also wrote and starred in the first sequel. The wrote the third film and were not involved with the fourth or fifth.

The first four films were notable for starring Regina Hall and Anna Faris in the respective roles of best friends Brenda Meeks and Cindy Campbell, and chronicled their comedic encounters with horror and the supernatural.

The new Scary Movie project will be filmed and released in 2025.
