Joy Sunday said her Wednesday character, siren Bianca Barclay, is going through growing pains with her mother Gabrielle (Gracy Goldman) in Season 2 of Netflix hit series Wednesday

Sunday told Blavity/Shadow and Act Managing Editor Trey Mangum that Bianca’s mother, Gabrielle, and Wednesday Addams’ mom, Morticia, “kind of serve as foils for Bianca.”

“In Season 1, we learned that obviously Bianca doesn’t appreciate how her mom uses her powers to manipulate people. And then in Season 2, Bianca’s faced with having to do that herself, and she kind of gains this intimate knowledge of that complexity. She really has to balance what she knows is right, which I think she’s always had a really strong sense of what’s right, versus what she needs to survive and also what she needs to protect her loved ones and her family,” said Sunday. “Obviously, [this is] a huge burden for a teenager to bear. I guess at the end of Part 1, we kind of only get a slice of her starting to work through it.”

Bianca’s relationship with her mother in Season 2

When teasing Part 2 of Season 2, Sunday also called Bianca’s predicament this season a “unique opportunity for Bianca to understand what her mom has gone through.”

She said, “Obviously, Bianca really is between a rock and a hard place, right? Because this [school] is her found family and this is her home because she had to leave it given this circumstance. And so it’ll certainly develop, and we’ll see what the result is. She might have to learn the hard way, but at the end of the day, she’s been isolatin,g and we see what that does to this situation.”
