Michael Bay promised he would always want to work with Will Smith even after the infamous Oscar slap, but it looks like that may take a while to happen, as the director and actor are no longer partnering on the upcoming Netflix film, Fast and Loose.

Deadline reports that Bay parted the film after he and Smith couldn’t reach a conclusion with their creative differences.

What plot details do we know of ‘Fast and Loose’ so far?

The film stars Smith as a man who wakes up in Tijuana without is memories, only to later learn that he was once a crime boss and an undercover CIA agent.

When was the movie first announced?

Smith and Bay’s partnership on the movie was announced in 2024, seemingly with the expectation that the two could recreate the magic they made with the Bad Boys franchise.

The franchise made Bay a household name and cemented Smith as an action star. But, according to Deadline’s sources, the two couldn’t come to an agreement when it comes to how Fast and Loose should be thematically. Smith, who is producing via his Westbrook banner, wanted Fast and Loose to be more comedic, while Bay wanted the film to be more focused on action.

Seems interesting that they couldn’t agree on a tone, seeing how Bay and Smith’s work on the Bad Boys franchise balances comedy with action.

In any event, Netflix is looking for a new director to take over the film so the production can stay on track for an October shoot date.
