Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s Netflix debut has allowed fans to rediscover the series. But it’s also helped bring to light some of the show’s undercover celebrity voice actors, including Serena Williams.
Viewers were able to pick out the tennis star’s voice in Season 3 two-parter The Day of Black Sun in which her character, Fire Nation prison guard Ming, tries to help Zuko’s (Dante Basco) uncle Iroh (Mako) while he is under her surveillance.

I know this bc I found out that Serena Williams is a huge Avatar fan……and apparently just asked if she could be in it. The power she has. Unmatched. https://t.co/gxAONAmrqK

Williams was a fan of the series, which was proven by a 2018 tweet she made asking how the animals of the series gain their bending powers.
Avatar last air bender fans only: Question- If the original benders were the sky bisons, badger moles, and dragons; how does that tie in with Avatar Wan when the lion sea turtle gave all the people bending power?????

This wasn’t the only time the tennis icon voiced a character in the franchise. She also voiced a female sage in an episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender‘s critically-acclaimed spinoff, The Legend of Korra.
