The tragic death of Robert Godwin Sr. at the hands of "The Cleveland Shooter" Steve Stephens on Easter Sunday 2017 was broadcast for everyone to see on Stephens' Facebook page. Godwin's family, seeking damages on his behalf, has filed a suit against Facebook accusing the social media giant of negligence, failure to warn and wrongful death, Cleveland's Fox 8 reported.

Court documents claim Facebook has a unique relationship with each of its users, knowing behaviors, intentions and likes. The suit states the company had an obligation to notify law enforcement when Stephens began making violent threats. Stephens posted a video at 11:09 a.m. stating he planned to kill, but his account wasn't disabled until 1:22 p.m.

Facebook offered Fox 8 the following statement:

“We want people to feel safe using Facebook, which is why we have policies in place prohibiting direct threats, attacks, serious threats of harm to public and personal safety and other criminal activity. We give people tools to report content that violates our policies, and take swift action to remove violating content when it’s reported to us. We sympathize with the victim’s family, who suffered such a tragic and senseless loss.” – Natalie Naugle, Facebook Associate General Counsel"

Hmm, we doubt that's a good enough answer for the family who lost a loved one in such a public way. Do you think Facebook is liable‌? Share your thoughts below.
