If you haven’t seen Get Out yet, A. What are you doing?, and B. Go read another one of our articles instead of this one, cause we’re about to talk about what happens at the end.
Okay, so: we all know that there’s a happy, if slightly deus ex machina, ending to Get Out.
But, Jordan Peele revealed in a conversation with Buzzfeed that he originally had another, more sinister, more realistic ending in mind.
“There were several endings of this movie — several of them were pretty dark,” Peele said, “I was trying to figure out what the best one was.”
Out of these, the one that almost made the cut involved Daniel Kaluuya’s character, Chris, being sentenced to life in prison for the murders of the film’s white family.
Fortunately for us, Peele said, “It was very clear that the ending needed to transform into something that gives us a hero, that gives us an escape, gives us a positive feeling when we leave this movie.”
The response to the ending Peele ultimately chose has given him confidence that he made the right decision, “There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the audience go crazy when Rod shows up.”
