After making enough of a statement on Broadway (back-to-back Tony Award nominations), Condola Rashad, who most recently starred in the Broadway revival of Romeo and Juliet, will co-star in what will be her first TV series regular role, in Fox’s upcoming new series Hieroglyph, which is expected to debut on the network’s lineup next TV season.

She previously appeared in a recurring role on the NBC series Smash (in 4 total episodes), and also guest-starred on The Good Wife, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Submissions Only.

Here’s what we know thus far about Hieroglyph: Set in ancient Egypt, Hieroglyph is said to be combo fantasy and reality, an ambitious action-adventure series from Pacific Rim and Clash of the Titans writer Travis Beacham, which will follow a notorious thief who leaves prison to serve the Pharaoh – a move that places him amid lots intrigue within palace walls; sex, crime, the usual.

Condola will play Nefertari – “a rare beauty who intimidates even the strongest of suitors… and she knows it,” as Fox describes how the character will be portrayed in the series. 

No further information is currently available, including just how much she’ll actually contribute to the overall series story-line. So instead of projecting, only to be disappointed, I’d rather just wait to find out what exactly Fox does with the character, when we learn more about what they have in store for her, or when the series actually debuts.

Playing Pharaoh will be British/South African actor Reece Ritchie (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Hercules).

Travis Beacham, Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Miguel Sapochnik (who will direct the pilot episode), are all executive producers of what will be a 13-episode series.

20th TV and Chernin Entertainment will produce.
