Sophie Okonedo co-stars alongside David Tennant, Toby Kebbell and Ashley Jensen in BBC One’s new 3-part series The Escape Artist, written by the same writer who penned Spooks – David Wolstencroft – and produced by Endor Productions, with Brian Welsh directing.
The Escape Artist is described as follows:
The drama revolves around Will Burton (David Tennant), a talented junior barrister of peerless intellect and winning charm who specialises in spiriting people out of tight legal corners. He is in high demand as he has never lost a case. But when his talents acquit the notorious prime suspect in an horrific murder trial, that brilliance comes back to bite him with unexpected and chilling results, not to mention a shocking twist in the tale.
Okonedo plays Maggie Gardner, Will Burton’s nemesis, who’s now leading the killer’s defense (after he’s brought back to trial a second time), and who’s determined to make a name for herself, but at a potential cost.
The series is currently airing on BBC1 in the UK. No word on whether it’ll travel.

Okonedo, who continues to work across continents, was recently seen in the BBC/Sky 1 HD production of Sinbad, and on the big screen in After Earth, with Will Smith and Jaden Smith.
