The leading Democrat for Florida’s 18th congressional district, Pam Keith is on the verge of making history. In next year's election, Keith will face off against Republican candidate Brian Mast for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Winning would make her one of the few black female veterans to ever win a seat.

In an interview with Afro.com, Keith made clear her qualifications and intentions for the job.

“I have been a lifetime advocate with training in the Navy and as a lawyer. I am prepared to be an advocate and there is a need for an advocate in Washington, D.C,” she said.

Keith is running to represent the 81 percent white and 12 percent black southeastern Florida district stretching from Fort Pierce to Palm Beach that includes both St. Lucie and Martin counties, in addition to parts of Palm Beach County.

Keith is an avid supporter of Obamacare, a woman’s right to choose, comprehensive immigration reform, public education and good services for veterans.

Also top among her priorities is holding President Donald J. Trump accountable.

The veteran has made it crystal clear that, unlike her Republican opponent, she has zero issues with voting for his impeachment. “I have a better skills set than Representative Mast,” she said. “He takes his cues from his party’s leadership and he doesn’t stand up to the GOP and Donald Trump. As a member of Congress, I will lead and if necessary challenge elements of my own party.”
