Frank Ocean is a music superstar, and with that status comes many lawsuits. It’s to be expected. One hopes that family never tries it, but unfortunately the enigmatic singer’s own father attempted to clean him out.

Earlier this year, in February, Frank Ocean’s father, Calvin Cooksey, sued his son for $14.5 million. In a Tumblr post Frank penned after 2016’s terrible Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, he wrote:

"I was 6 years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a faggot as he dragged me out of a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn't be served because she was dirty.”

Cooksey alleged that the story was false and "damaged his financial opportunities in film and music,” which is apparently worth the $14.5 million he went after.

Good news, though! This week, Ocean prevailed and defeated the libel suit, according to Law 360.

In a statement to The Fader, Ocean's attorney, Keith Bremer, said, “It was a sad case. We are glad that it ended in Frank’s favor and that it is over.”

We’re glad it’s over too. We’re always looking forward to new music from Ocean, and would hate for legal issues to slow him down physically and emotionally. Hopefully, in the future, him and his father can also find peace with one another.
