As we've previously reported, the children of Baltimore City Schools have had to deal with the frigid conditions of many unheated school buildings. These children have been forced to go to school in 40-degree classrooms, leading these circumstances to be met with both anger and sympathy.

We know that no child should have to deal with this, but we also know that no child should have to miss an opportunity to learn. That's the reason Coppin State senior Samierra Jones, whose sister attends Baltimore's Western High School, created a GoFundMe page Wednesday as a temporary solution to the problem. Her goal was to raise at least $20,000 to get heaters for the schools and coats and gloves for the students. As of Friday morning, the campaign has raised over $43,000, far exceeding the goal.

Perhaps this rush of donation comes from the "bomb cyclone" that is sweeping through the northeast and causing below zero temperatures. According to BuzzFeed, Baltimore finally closed their school doors yesterday, but whether it was due to the cyclone or the preexisting conditions is uncertain. What we do know is that long-term solution or not, thanks to some generous people, Baltimore children will have space heaters and outerwear to help combat the cold when they get back.

This isn't the end of the fight for adequate heating systems though. Complex reports that the Baltimore Teachers Union asked schools to shut down until they get heat, and people will be rallying at a school board meeting Tuesday for better conditions.

Everyone, please do their best to stay warm as the cold comes barging through!
