Amid his hospitalization, Good Times star John Amos denies his daughter’s claims about him being a victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation.
On Thursday, Shannon Amos made shocking accusations her father was fighting for his life and had been victimized by people she called “caregivers.”
According to TMZ, Shannon said she received a phone call from her father last month stating he was hospitalized in Memphis. Shannon was out of the country then and claimed her father was in “unbearable pain.”
She added her father had also allegedly been the victim of financial crimes. She didn’t detail what happened or who stole from the 83-year-old actor.
She said, “His home had been violated, stripped of anything valuable.”
The outlet stated she also said the “family is working with the Colorado Bureau of Investigations and cops to get justice.”
Shannon started a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $500K to assist with her father’s health and legal fees.
The description of the fundraiser page for “America’s Dad” stated Amos was “fighting for his life in the ICU.”
She was adamant about someone possibly violating her father.
“The cruelty inflicted upon my dad leaves me questioning what kind of human could commit such acts,” she wrote in the campaign’s description.
Shannon posted an adorable video of her and Amos dancing to tug on the public’s heartstrings. Luther Vandross’ “Dance With My Father” was the soundtrack.
At the time of publishing, the crowdfunding effort had raised a little over $9,000.
TMZ contacted the actor’s reps to confirm the state Shannon claimed he was in, and they said the claims were untrue.
Belinda Foster, a representative for Amos, confirmed the Coming to America star had been in the hospital.
She stated his “lower body was filling with fluid all the way to his abdomen, which had caused issues with his heart.”
Foster added the “doctors have been able to drain all of it, and John’s recently started to feel 100%.”
Staffers at TMZ reported they spoke with Amos directly. He said “no one was abusing him” and was “unsure” why his daughter started the GoFundMe effort.
The outlet contacted Shannon for a statement but had not received a response.
