Freeform’s Grown-ish is partnering with the scholarship app Scholly to help college students pay off their student debts.
Grown-ish is a spinoff of the ABC family sitcom Black-ish. The show follows a college student, played by Yara Shahidi, as she navigates the struggle years, popularly referred to as higher education. While the show has garnered criticism, particularly with the representation of dark-skinned people, the Freeform phenom has also gained much acclaim for its ridiculously accurate portrayal of college life.
Now, the show is attempting to make a difference in the lives of actual college students by partnering with Scholly, an app which helps college-bound students find private scholarships to help fund their collegiate careers. Through the collaboration, Scholly and Grown-ish are hoping to pay off $125,000 of debt for borrowers.
The first part of the application process is simple: Students enter personal information like their name, date of birth, college and student loan balance. The next step is more in-depth and involves applicants completing essays and providing more detailed information.
“We want as many people as possible to apply,” said the creator of the app, Christopher Gray.
